The writ will be heard on Oct 16.
KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the withdrawal of nine candidates from the upcoming House of Representatives and State Assembly member elections.
Advocate Anil Acharya registered the writ petition.
Congress candidate Bijay Kumar Gachchdar of Sunsari-3, Govindaraj Joshi of Tanahun-1, and RPP candidate Bikram Pandey of Chitwan-3 have all been accused of corruption, so their nominations for the House of Representatives members have been demanded to be canceled.
Similarly, DB Tamang, a candidate for provincial assembly from Sindhupalchok 1 (a), who is on the police absconding list in the killing industry, Laxmi Mahato, a candidate from Mahottari 1, and a member of the armed police, Thaman BK, have been asked to withdraw their candidacy.
It is also mentioned in the writ that Prabhu Shah, who became an independent candidate from Rautahat 3, was involved in the murder of Kashi Tiwari of Birgunj and his case was withdrawn by the Attorney General’s office.
Similarly, a writ has been filed seeking the cancellation of Revatraj Puri’s candidacy, along with Sarita Giri, Lakshmi Mahato, and Gagan.
Leader Sarita Giri has made controversial statements about Nepali territories Limpiyadhura, Lipulek, and Kalapani, and Jhapa 5 (B) candidate Rewatraj Puri is accused of stealing government land, so their candidacy has been called into question.
The writ will be heard on Oct 16.
