Action to be taken if election results are published on social media
Election Code of Conduct, 2079, states unequivocally that no vote poll can be conducted or the results of such polls announced or published from the date of registration.
KATHMANDU: In violation of the code of conduct for the election of members of the House of Representatives and the State Assembly on Nov 20, some people have been found using social media to publicize vote polls and their results regarding political parties and candidates.
Kamal Bhattarai, Deputy Secretary and Assistant Spokesperson for the Commission issued a press release on Thursday in which he stated that if anyone violates the above provisions, action will be taken in accordance with the law.
Section 4 (T) of the Election Code of Conduct, 2079, states unequivocally that no vote poll can be conducted or the results of such polls announced or published from the date of registration of the candidate’s nomination papers until the voting is completed.
In addition, section 4 (th) of the code of conduct states that it is prohibited to hold opinions, spread propaganda, create electronic materials and publish them on social media, or share materials published by others in order to negatively affect or obstruct the election.
