KATHMANDU: Sandeep Lamichhane, who is being held in police custody on rape charges, has been granted another five days in custody by the District Court in Kathmandu.

Lamichhane, who was arrested on Oct 8, was brought to court on Oct 11. The court initially granted detention for seven days.

The police requested permission to detain Sandeep for another seven days, citing an ongoing investigation on Thursday.

“Seven days is too long when we are only halfway through the process of issuing statements. We stated that only three days should be allowed “‘Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa’s bench has extended the deadline by 5 days,’ said Sandeep’s lawyer Sarojkrishna Ghimire.

Ghimire stated that he wished for the case to be registered on Oct 18 following the completion of the statement during this time period.
