KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed the commitment of the government to amend the Citizenship Act for Non-Resident Nepalis.

He expected that the Act would be changed soon. Prime Minister Deubal also stated that facilitation has been assisting non-resident Nepalis in activities ranging from making it easier for them to arrive in Nepal to protecting their property in connection with the Annual General Meeting of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).

He urged Nepalis who were not citizens to invest money in Nepal and support its economic growth. He claimed that both making investments and reaping the rewards of those investments would be made simpler in Nepal. Every non-resident Nepali, according to him, should play a significant part in motivating foreign investors to preserve Nepal’s unique identity.

He advised Nepali nationals living abroad to prioritize using homegrown goods. He added that Nepali labor, skills, and raw materials should be used to support small and medium-sized industries.

Non-resident Nepalis claimed that by maintaining a minimum investment cap of Rs 2 crore starting with the current fiscal year, investment in Nepal has been made easier.

Similar to this, he stated, non-resident Nepalis will be given preference when purchasing securities, and 10% of shares will be set aside for priority share issuance (IPO) for Nepalis who have relocated abroad for employment.
