JHAPA: 27 people have registered to run for House of Representatives seats in Jhapa-5, the constituency nominated by Nepal Communist Party (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli.

There are only 14 independent candidates among those who have registered to run.

On Sunday, nominations were accepted for the Nov 20 election of representatives and state assembly members.

According to the District Election Office in Jhapa, 111 candidates for the House of Representatives and 116 candidates for the State Assembly have registered for the district’s five constituencies.

The majority of those who filed nominations for House of Representatives seats are from Jhapa Region No. 5. According to Tulsi Kumar Nepal, chief of the District Election Office in Jhapa, the number of independent candidates is also high. According to Nepal, 14 of the 14 candidates in this constituency are independent.

According to the Election Office, despite the fact that the main party did not nominate a woman for the position of member of the House of Representatives in Jhapa Region No. 5, four women from other small parties were nominated and registered nominations. In Jhapa, there are 110 candidates, 33 of whom are Independent, including nine women.

There are 16 candidates including three women in Jhapa constituency no. 1, twenty people including one woman in 2, eighteen people in 3, twenty including one woman in 4 and 27 people including four women in 5.
