KATHMANDU: Today, various programs are being held across the country to commemorate Constitution Day- Ashoj 3 (Sept 19).

On Ashoj 3, 2072BS (19 Sept 2022), the constituent assembly promulgated the constitution written by the people’s representatives. The current constitution is Nepal’s seventh written constitution, and it aims to establish socialism through citizens’ socioeconomic and cultural rights.

It has special significance as it was enacted by the constituent assembly on the basis of the second people’s movement, peace accord, and the peace process.

Earlier, the peace accord was signed by the then-seven political parties and the CPN (Maoist) party. With the abolition of the unitary system and monarchy, it has formally institutionalized the new system of a federal democratic republic.

According to the new constitution’s new form of governance, there are currently seven states, 753 local levels, and a federal government.

The national charter is divided into 35 parts, 308 articles, and 9 schedules. Meanwhile, a special function is being held this morning at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel.

On this occasion, an awareness drive, discourses, and discussions are planned. Special features on Constitution Day have been published in print and electronic media, and special programs have been broadcast and telecasted to commemorate the occasion.

The constitution promulgated by Nepalese citizens for themselves is gradually being accepted by all. While efforts were underway to effectively implement federalism in the country, the incumbent government put in place the necessary policies and laws to enforce the constitution.
