Jitiya festival being observed by Maithili & Tharu communities today

BIRATNAGAR: Jitiya festival, a great festival celebrated by women from the Terai’s Tharu and Maithili communities, is being celebrated today with great fanfare. State1 celebrates this festival with great zeal in the Terai-Madhesh districts.
This fast is observed primarily on Ashtami Tithi of Ashwin Krishna Paksha and is said to be kept for the long life of children.
People bathe and clean themselves on Ashwin Krishna Saptami Tithi, and they begin fasting with the arrival of Ashtami Tithi, and the Jitiya festival is concluded with puja after the arrival of Navami Tithi.
During this fast, it is customary to listen to Lord Jitavahana’s stories and glories at night. Jitiya, a major festival of Tharu and Maithili communities in particular, is associated with children’s happiness, peace, and vitality.
Worshiping Jitavahana, a righteous man who was blessed by Lord Vishnu during the Satya Yuga, is thought to have started the tradition of fasting and worshiping Jitavahana in the hope that children will not die prematurely. This is an important Terai-Madhesh folk festival.
Giving greetings on the auspicious occasion of Jitiya festival, State 1, Chief Minister Rajendra Kumar Rai wished happiness, peace, good health, longevity, and progress to all Nepali sisters and brothers living in the country and abroad.
