In Pics: Protest of GEFONT

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Swarojgar Shramik Trade Association, a union of the UML-affiliated labor organization GEFONT, has protested against the Kathmandu Metropolitan, demanding the right to conduct business on the city’s sidewalks/streets.

The union complained that the Metropolitan Corporation had removed the sidewalk traders and small traders without providing them with an alternative and that they were attempting to displace those doing the peddling business rather than managing them.

Protesters gathered in Sundhara and staged a sit-in protest in front of the city office through the Ratnapark Bhadrakali Martyr Gate.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has launched a campaign to demolish illegal structures and stop doing business on city streets.
