KATHMANDU: Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.
Her son, King Charles III, described his mother’s death as a “moment of great sadness” for him and his family, and said her loss would be “deeply felt” around the world.
“We deeply mourn the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother,” he said.
Elizabeth, who was born on April 21, 1926 in Mayfair, London, is Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. She is the world’s second longest-reigning monarch, after Louis 14th of France. She is the head of state of 14 Commonwealth countries, in addition to the United Kingdom.
She used to be friendly with Nepal as well. Because of the British royal family’s deep faith in Gurkha soldiers, Elizabeth had a special relationship with Nepal.
