KATHMANDU: The sixth edition of the SAFF Women’s Championship began today at Tripureshwaor’s Dasharath Stadium.

The tournament, which will last until Ashoj 3 (Sept 19), has begun today with a match between the host country Nepal and Bhutan.

The Nepali National Women’s Football Team, which had previously finished as runners-up four times, was given the opportunity to compete for the title this time around.

The previous fifth edition was also organized in Nepal. Nepal was defeated by India in the tournament finals in Biratnagar in 2019 by 3-1 goals, finishing as runners-up for the fourth time.

Other than India, no other country has won the SAFF Women’s Championship. Nepal has a golden opportunity to create new history in the sixth edition of the match, which will be held for the second time at home.
