KATHMANDU: The National Assembly has approved the proposal seeking consideration on the Public Debt Management Bill, 2076 BS.

The bill was sent to the upper house by the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament, along with a message.

The National Assembly unanimously approved the proposal on the bill, which was presented in the meeting today by Finance Minister Janardan Sharma.

Lawmakers Jitendra Narayan Dev and Devendra Dahal had put queries on various topics related to the bill.

Responding to the questions raised during deliberation on the proposal, Finance Minister Sharma said the bill was endorsed in the Finance Committee of the lower house after consultations with the stakeholders concerned.

He added that the bill has also been ratified by the House of Representatives and it has been tabled in the upper house to further refine it and make it timely and practical.

Finance Minister Sharma said that the bill has been brought for supporting the country’s rapid economic growth, for maintaining economic stability and for managing public finance as well as for maintaining synchrony between the fiscal and monetary policies.

He contended that the bill contributes to making the process of taking loans systematic and transparent and provisions have been made by which only the Government of Nepal can receive a foreign loans.

The Finance Minister also reassured that Nepal’s economic condition was satisfactory.
