KATHMANDU: Suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana has stated that while the sentence in Ranjan Koirala’s case was reduced, he did commit suicide.

He stated on the third day before the Impeachment Recommendation Committee that Koirala’s decision was made with discretion.

“For family matters and having a minor son and caring for the children, the judge used mind for two children when they had already served 8 years and six months for being sentenced to 20 years in prison,” he said.

Similarly, he stated that if a mistake occurs in the same case, he will apologize to the people. “I apologize to the people if impeachment was brought in error,” he said. I have made amends.
