KATHMANDU: The meeting of the working group of the ruling coalition formed for the distribution of seats will be held today. After the meeting on Wednesday evening ended without a resolution, a meeting is scheduled for today to try to reach an agreement.
Him Lal Puri, Secretary of the Rastriya Janamorcha, informed that the working group meeting had been scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Baluwater.
According to him, the discussion has gone well and will be completed today. The meeting progressed well. “The number has been discussed at the highest level,” he said, adding that “everyone has agreed to be flexible and set aside their own claims in order to reach an agreement.”
The coalition agreed on Monday to decide on the number and distribution of province and representative assembly constituencies by September 5. Prior to that, on August 25, the parties presented their claims for the first time in a joint meeting of top leaders and working group members.
The Congress won 100 seats, the Maoists 60, the Socialist United 40, the JSP 31 seats, and the Rastriya Janamorcha 2 seats. Based on the 074 and 079 elections, the parties claimed seats in their favor. They have not, however, revealed the constituencies.
The alliance’s top leadership has been put under pressure as the seats have not been finalized even after a month of the working group’s formation. After failing to reach an agreement in the 11-member working group, the top leader is preparing to end it by political decision.
