KATHMANDU: The Democratic Socialist Party Nepal (LOSAPA) has issued a circular in which candidates for the upcoming elections are recommended.

It has issued a circular to local committees to recommend candidates for the November 20 House of Representatives and State Assembly elections.

On Tuesday, LOSAPA chairperson Mahantha Thakur issued a circular asking members to recommend candidates for state, district, and regional committees.

The Regional Committee has been asked to select candidates for the District Committee, and the District Committee has been asked to select candidates for the State Committee in order to submit a list of candidates to the Central Committee.

From September 4 to 6, it was asked to recommend a maximum of three candidates, including one woman, if agreed to directly to the House of Representatives Election Regional Committee meeting. The regional committee has also been tasked with recommending candidates for the state assembly.

It has been requested to forward the list of candidates recommended by the House of Representatives Election Regional Committee meeting to the district committee on September 6 and to the respective state committee on September 7 following the district committee meeting on September 8. The circular states that the state committee should send it to the central working committee by September 10.

Thakur’s circular states that “while recommending names for direct and proportional side, recommend the candidate with a brief background.”

Recommendations from Upendra Bara 2 and 3

Upendra Yadav, chairperson of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP), has been recommended as a candidate for the House of Representatives from Bara 2 and Bara 3. Yadav’s name was also proposed at a separate meeting of the JSP Bara region 2 and 3 committees.

Along with Yadav from Bara 2, Ramsahay Prasad Yadav and Prayag Rai have been suggested from that area. Ramsahay had previously won Bara 2. Upendra was elected from Saptari 2 in the last election. Dr. CK Raut, a chairperson of the Janamat Party, has announced his intention to run for office in that district.

The party has also decided to remove Raut from that area. Upendra is looking for a new constituency as JSP could not get good votes in the local elections.

Only Rajviraj Municipality, the headquarters, was won by the JSP in local elections. The Janmat Party candidate won in Mahadeva Rural Municipality-2, which includes Raut’s home. In his hometown, the Democratic Socialist Party won.

LOSPA also triumphed in Chinnamasta Rural Municipality. Another municipality, Tilathi-Koiladi Rural Municipality, has been won by the Democratic Party. According to Jaspa sources, Upendra is more likely to run from Bara 2 or 3 in the 2079 election because it will be difficult for him to win from Saptari 2.
