BIRATNAGAR: The Nepali Congress (NC) has recommended Sunil Sharma as a single candidate from Morang’s constituency number 3.

Sharma, who is also the director of the Nobel Medical College in Biratnagar, has been recommended by the NC to be a candidate from constituency number 3 for the election to be held on Nov 20.

Sharma, who was defeated by CPN-UML leader Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal in the 2074 election, is expected to compete again this time. The CPN-UML is preparing to raise Dhakal in this area once more.

Sunil Sharma’s hold on this area, which is considered a UML stronghold, has grown stronger. Bhojraj Basnet, NC leader of Morang-3, informed that the NC regional committee meeting on Tuesday recommended Sharma’s single name.

The coalition parties are debating giving this area to the CPN-S Party.

According to NC leaders, Sharma will be the candidate of that region as Morang-3 is not part of the power coalition and the party has made candidates based on the recommendations of the regional committee.

Sharma is considered close to NC leader Shekhar Koirala.

Sharma has been providing free and discounted health services to the citizens of this area since his defeat in the 2074 election.

He has also provided free ambulance service to his constituents and arranged for substantial discounts on their medical treatment. He is attempting to placate voters by holding regular health camps in Region No. 3.

RPP has also recommended actress Rekha Thapa’s name for the House of Representatives (HoR) from this region.

According to UML leaders, Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, a former UML minister, will almost certainly be the candidate.

Sharma, who lost by 1900 votes when the UML and Maoist contested the election together in 2074, is hoping to win easily this time.

The region has 26 wards; the UML has won 14 of them, NC has won 11, and the Independent has won one.
