Comedian arrested for insulting Newa community

KATHMANDU: Apoorwa Kshitiz Singh, a comedian, has been arrested for insulting the Newa community.

District Police Complex Kathmandu arrested Singh on Sunday.

Newa activists filed a complaint against comedian Singh at the Kathmandu police complex for satirizing the Newa community’s faith on Saturday.

He satirized the Newa community’s language, culture, food, and other issues in a video titled ‘Newar tradition’ on the YouTube channel Comedy Cafe.

The video was widely panned on social media after its release. Singh has removed the video from his YouTube channel following protests. Similarly, he apologized through Facebook on Saturday.
