KATHMANDU: The text of President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s withdrawn Citizenship Bill has been tabled in the National Assembly (NA).

The Secretary of the National Assembly, Rajendra Phuyal, informed the meeting on Sunday about the text received from the HoR regarding the Citizenship Bill, which the President returned for reconsideration.

As the bill was returned to the National Assembly on Sunday, it is possible that it will be discussed at the next meeting.

The President’s withdrawn bill was already passed by the House of Representatives on August 18. The National Assembly should now vote on it. If the President returns a bill with a message, it must be passed by both Houses.

The Citizenship Bill has been returned to Parliament for information, discussion, and study, according to President Bhandari’s 9-page letter.

A constitutional provision requires the President to certify the bill within 15 days of it being passed by the Federal Parliament. According to the constitution, the president has no authority to withdraw a bill that has already been passed.
