KATHMANDU: The voter registration update program begins today in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives and State Assembly member elections.

The voter list will be published on August 28 in the respective ward office and election office under this provision.

According to the Election Commission, from August 29 to 31, an application can be made to the election office to correct an error in the list, file a complaint against the details of a person published in the list, and retain the name of a voter if it appears in more than one place.

From August 29 to September 1, an application can be submitted to the election office to remove the names of voters who have died and renounced their citizenship from the list. In previous elections, the commission was chastised for including the names of people who had died or were living abroad on the voter list.

The Commission has already decided that voters who turn 18 on the day of the election will be allowed to vote for House of Representatives and State Assembly member elections. According to the commission, voters who have reached the age of 18 will be able to vote by November 19.

To do so, the name must be on the voter list. The election of members of the House of Representatives and the State Assembly will take place in one phase across the country on November 20.

Since the local level elections on May 13 last year, voters whose names are on the voter’s list after reaching the age of 18 on the day before the election can vote, according to the Commission. Prior to that, only citizens who had reached the age of 18 on the day the election date was announced were eligible to vote.

There was a rule that people who turned 18 between the day the election date was announced and the day of the election could not vote.

According to the commission, 1 crore 77 lakh 33 thousand 723 voters have turned 18 as of May 12, including 8741 thousand 530 women, 8992 thousand 10 men, and 183 others. The commission began collecting voter lists on June 15th, after the completion of the local level member election.

After the government announced the election date on August 4, the commission suspended voter list collection on August 5. The final voter list will be published on September 16 after the voter list has been updated.
