34 killed, 50 injured in rain spells across Pakistan in 24 hours
At least 17 children and seven women were among those who lost their lives in different rain-related accidents across the country.
ISLAMABAD: At least 34 people were killed and 50 others injured in heavy monsoon rain-triggered flash floods and other rain-related accidents during the last 24 hours in Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said.
According to a report released by the NDMA Thursday evening, at least 17 children and seven women were among those who lost their lives in different rain-related accidents across the country.
The country’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was the worst-hit region with 16 killed and seven others injured, followed by the southern Sindh province with 13 killed and 40 injured, while southwest Balochistan and eastern Punjab provinces reported four deaths and one death, respectively, the NDMA said.
The total death toll in Pakistan from this season’s monsoon rains since mid-June has reached 937, including 198 women and 343 children, along with 1,343 others injured, the NDMA said.
Additionally, 670,328 houses, 145 bridges and 122 shops have been destroyed, it added.
Rescue and relief operations by the NDMA, other government organizations, volunteers, and non-government organizations were underway in the flood-hit areas.
Chinese enterprises in Pakistan on Thursday donated humanitarian aid of over 15.5 million Pakistani rupees (about 71,340 U.S. dollars) for the country’s flood victims in a ceremony held by the NDMA here.
