KATHMANDU: The parties have submitted claims for seats in the working group formed to allocate seats in the ruling coalition.

The parties made their submissions at the working group meeting on Thursday evening at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

There are only 165 House of Representatives constituencies across the country. The parties, however, have filed for 227 seats in the coalition working group.

According to Rashtriya Janamorcha Secretary Himalal Puri, the Maoists have claimed 60 seats and the CPN (Unified Socialists) have claimed 40 seats following the Congress. He stated that the Janata Samajwadi Party has requested 25 seats and the Rastriya Janamorcha Party has requested two seats.

The meeting failed to reach an agreement on how to reconcile the two leaders, Bamdev Gautam and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, who recently agreed to run for office under the Maoist election symbol.

The coalition meeting on Thursday directed the task force to analyze data on which party’s position in which union and state region until Friday.
