KATHMANDU: A team led by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has arrived in Sankhamul and Baneshwor for an on-site inspection. The mayor led a team to the area to remove the unauthorized structures.

DIG Meera Chaudhary and Mayor Balen are currently inspecting the underground of Shankhamul Burger House. Prior to the observation, a meeting was held at the Kathmandu ward-10 office with the leader and the ward’s people’s representative. Because the unauthorized structures must be removed, microphones were used to collect the goods.

Mayor Shah ordered the removal of a burger stand that was operating in the parking lot of a commercial building in Shankhamul. He ordered the burger restaurant to be removed after discovering it was operating in the basement designated for parking.

During the monitoring, it was discovered that the housewives violated the rules by allowing hotels, restaurants, pubs, and shops to operate in the basement made for parking. The metropolis, which began removing structures built by unauthorized road encroachment, plans to remove the shop structures in Koteshwor in the afternoon.

On August 22, after the 35-day public notice issued by the metropolis to operate the basement, semi-basement, and ground floor according to the approved map expired, the action began in Baneshwor. On Wednesday, the metropolitan demolished some Baneshwor structures after using the underground parking for other purposes.

On the first day in Baneshwor, the metropolis began monitoring, searching for, and taking action on structures that were passed off as parking but were used for other purposes. Mayor Sah requested that the parking structure built be used for parking. He stated that this would make planning for parking management easier for the city.

Parking should be provided on 20% of the land for commercial public buildings (star hotels, cinema halls, theaters, commercial complexes, nursing homes, polyclinics, government semi-government offices), according to Building Standard 064. 15% should be set aside for educational institutions such as schools and campuses. These criteria were used to decide whether or not to approve the map.
