KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has prepared to remove Koteshwor structures today.

The metropolitan, which began removing structures built by encroaching on roads without permission, is preparing to remove the shop structures that are currently operating in Koteshwor.

The city has begun to demolish illegal structures. Meanwhile, unauthorized structures in the Baneshwor, New Road, and Durbar Marg areas have been removed since Tuesday.

Today is the last day for traders in those areas to remove their goods. According to the metropolitan, if the goods are not removed even today, they will be confiscated. The metropolitan will keep an eye on the areas where structures have been demolished and warnings have been issued.

A team including Mayor Balendra Shah removed the unauthorized structures built at Kathmandu Plaza, RB Complex, New Road. According to Mayor Shah, after it was found that the structures built illegally and the structures built for one purpose were used for another purpose, they were removed.

Sorry for the inconvenience: Mayor Shah

Mayor Shah has apologized for the inconvenience caused to the landlords. “We express our regret for the inconvenience caused to the tenants of the unauthorized structure,” he said, adding that “we want to assure the metropolis that we will take the necessary steps to seek compensation from the owner of the unauthorized structure by seeking legal action for causing financial damage to the tenant by renting the structure.”

On August 22, after the 35-day public notice issued by the metropolitan to operate the basement, semi-basement, and ground floor according to the approved map expired, the action began from Baneshwor. The metropolitian demolished some Baneshwor structures on Wednesday after using the underground parking for other purposes.

On the first day in Baneshwar, the metropolitan began monitoring, searching for, and taking action on structures that were passed off as parking but were used for other purposes. Mayor Sah requested that the parking structure built be used for parking. He stated that this would make planning for parking management easier for the city. However, some people continue to obstruct.

Parking should be arranged on 20% of the land for commercial public buildings (star hotels, cinema halls, theaters, commercial complexes, nursing homes, polyclinics, government semi-government offices), according to building standards 064. 15% should be set aside for educational institutions such as schools and campuses. These criteria were used to decide whether or not to approve the map.
