Pakistan condemns hotel attack in Mogadishu

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan strongly condemned the terrorist arrack in the Somali capital Mogadishu which has resulted in the loss of innocent lives and injuries to many others, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said.

“We express heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” the ministry said in a statement on Monday night.

The Somali government confirmed that 21 people were killed and 117 others injured in the terrorist attack on a popular hotel in Mogadishu on Friday evening.

Somali Minister of Health Ali Haji Adan said 15 of the wounded persons sustained serious injuries and were in critical condition. The attackers who had detonated explosives and blasted their way inside the popular Hayat hotel engaged the security forces in a gunfight that lasted 30 hours.

Pakistan reiterated its condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, the statement said.

“We express solidarity with the brotherly people and government of Somalia and firmly stand with their efforts in fighting the menace of terrorism and ensuring the protection of their citizens,” according to the foreign ministry.
