KATHMANDU: Pradeep Giri, a Nepali Congress leader and enlightened socialist thinker who died on Saturday night, was cremated with state honors at Pashupati Aryaghat.
State honors were accorded at Giri’s funeral, according to Home Ministry spokesperson Fanindra Mani Pokharel.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, and other ministers, MPs, and ordinary citizens flocked to Aryaghat to pay their last respects to leader Giri, who had been battling cancer for some time.
Giri was given dagbatti (fire) by his son Santosh, and nephews Pranyan Giri and Prashant Giri.
