The meeting scheduled for Thursday had previously been called off. On Wednesday, there was also a Maoist meeting.
KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-Maoist Center is holding its permanent committee meeting, which is under pressure to finalize office bearers. The meeting will take place in the morning at the party headquarters in Parisdanda.
Preparations are being made, according to Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara, to finalize the Central Committee, Politburo, Standing Committee, and officials. The meeting scheduled for Thursday had previously been called off. On Wednesday, there was also a Maoist meeting.
The eighth Maoist Congress was held seven months ago. However, the office bearer has yet to be determined due to a lack of consensus among the general secretaries.
Previously, Barsaman Pun and Janardan Sharma were considered for the position of General Secretary, but it is believed that chairperson Prachanda is planning to appoint Dev Gurung as General Secretary.
Prachanda decided not to make Pun and Sharma general secretaries after they refused to relinquish their positions. Pun and Sharma are currently being considered for the position of Deputy General Secretary. Giriraj Mani Pokharel will be named Deputy Secretary General as well.
The Maoist Center has already selected Narayan Kaji Shrestha as senior vice president and Krishna Bahadur Mahara as vice president, and it is now preparing to appoint Pampha Bhusal, Dinanath Sharma, Haribol Gajurel, and Ganesh Shah as vice chairs.
Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is preparing to propose office bearers at today’s meeting. The Maoist constitution calls for 15 members, including a president, a senior vice chairperson, six vice presidents, a general secretary, two deputy general secretaries, three secretaries, and a treasurer.
