People from the Hindu community are celebrating Krishna Janmashtami today, an important festival that falls on the eighth day (Ashtami) of Krishna Pakshya in the month of Bhadra.
Lord Krishna, the pioneer of Gyan Yog, Karma Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga, was born at midnight on Bhadrakrishna Ashtami in the Dwapara Yuga, so today is known as ‘Shri Krishna Janmashtami,’ and the night is known as ‘Mohratri.’
On this day, there is a tradition in Krishna temples across the country of worshiping Lord Krishna, preaching, chanting hymns, especially by women and men, and staying awake all night.
Shri Krishna, born as Lord Vishnu’s eighth incarnation to protect all human beings from injustice, tyranny, and demonic tendencies, inspired the human community to do good deeds by standing for the truth throughout his life.
The holy book, ‘Shrimad Bhagavad Gita,’ was uttered by Shri Krishna himself while preaching to Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, who was involved in the battle with the Kauravas in Kurukshetra. This book, also known as Gita in short, is thought to have been translated into the majority of the world’s languages.
According to mythological texts, Shri Krishna, who showed strange pastimes as a child, destroyed demonic tendencies such as Putana, Kansha, Jarasandha, and Shisupala. On this occasion, a large fair is being held today at Patan’s famous Krishna temple in Mangal Bazar.
Similarly, devotees flock to Navatandham in Kageshwori Manohara Municipality, which is located northeast of the capital. A large crowd gathers at the Krishna temple in the office of the Shri Krishna Consciousness Association in Budhanilkanth, which is located in the northern part.
