Difficulties to determine basis of distribution in ruling coalition
A working group meeting will be held today to develop a blueprint for seat distribution within the alliance.
KATHMANDU: The meeting of the ruling five-party working group formed for the distribution of seats for the upcoming elections is being held today.
A working group meeting will be held today to develop a blueprint for seat distribution within the alliance.
The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in Baluwatar, according to JSP leader Ram Sahaya Yadav. The working group had previously agreed on a seat distribution based on three factors.
It was agreed that the seats would be distributed based on the votes received by the parties in the most recent local level elections, the seats won in the 2074 House of Representatives and State Assembly elections, and party sensitivities. However, as all of the coalition parties claimed more seats, disagreements on these issues grew.
Nepali Congress (NC) became the first party in the last local level elections and came third in the 2074 House of Representatives and State Assembly elections.
However, Congress came in second place by a few votes in the 2074 election. Based on NC’s vote and the vote in the previous local level election, NC claimed 60 percent of the seats. The remaining 40% of seats will be distributed among the four parties.
The working group coordinator, NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula, is said to be preparing to reach the proposal’s content and create a blueprint at today’s meeting.
