First meeting of committee formed to investigate impeachment against JB Rana being held
The meeting will be held at Birendra International Conference Centre's Shankar Hall at 12 p.m., according to committee members.
KATHMANDU: The impeachment committee for Chief Justice Cholendra Shumser JB Rana is holding its first meeting. The meeting of the committee formed to investigate the impeachment of suspended CJ Rana is now scheduled.
The first meeting of the impeachment recommendation committee will take place alongside Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota.
The meeting will be held at Birendra International Conference Centre’s Shankar Hall at 12 p.m., according to committee members.
The impeachment proposal was passed by a majority in Parliament on August 7 and sent to the impeachment recommendation committee. The impeachment recommendation committee has three months to investigate and report back to the parliament.
The member stated that the first meeting would take place as the impeachment recommendation committee must begin action as soon as possible after receiving the impeachment proposal.
The impeachment recommending committee will be able to appoint a coordinator and initiate the necessary procedure at today’s meeting.
The committee will be able to give the accused seven days after the proceedings begin to submit an acquittal of the charges. On February 13, 98 members of the ruling coalition filed an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Rana.
