General Election-2079: Schedule approved, nominations filed on Oct 9
The printing of ballots will begin on Oct 14.
KATHMANDU: The agenda for the upcoming elections for representatives and state assemblies has been prepared by the Election Commission. The Election Commission has approved the election schedule for the general election, which will be held on Sunday, Nov 20.
Members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the State Assembly’s candidacies will be registered on Oct 9, according to the Commission. On Oc 12, the final list of direct candidates will be released.
The printing of ballots will begin on Oct 14. On Sept 27, the Chief Election Officer and Election Officer will be appointed. On Oct 7, the offices of Chief Election Officer and Election Officer will be established.
According to Commission sources, the office of the Chief Election Officer will be established in 77 districts and the office of the Election Officer in 88 places for the posts of 165 House of Representatives and 330 State Assembly members.
The appointment of polling officers and assistant polling officers, voter education, transportation of voting materials, transportation of ballot papers, handing over of election materials to polling officers, and campaigning of candidates and political parties have all been scheduled from October 14 to Nov 17.
Propaganda will be prohibited beginning at 12 am night on Nov 17. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 20.
The upcoming elections will directly elect 165 members of the HoR and 330 people’s representatives. On a proportional basis, 110 House of Representatives members and 220 State Assembly members will be elected.
