4 killed in attack on provincial lawmaker’s convoy in NW Pakistan
The provincial lawmaker was critically wounded and hospitalized along with the other injured persons.
ISLAMABAD: Four people were killed and four others injured late Saturday night after gunmen opened fire at a provincial lawmaker’s convoy in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, local media reported Sunday morning.
According to the reports, the armed assailants attacked the convoy led by a member of the provincial assembly Liaqat Ali Khan in the Maidan area of the Lower Dir district of the province. The provincial lawmaker was critically wounded and hospitalized along with the other injured persons.
The people killed in the attack were two gunmen, and a brother and a nephew of the provincial lawmaker.
Police, security forces and rescue personnel rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and the injured to a hospital.
The reports added that the convoy was on its way to a village when it came under attack.
Security personnel have started a search operation in the area.
Chief Minister of the province Mahmood Khan condemned the attack, noting, “The people involved in the attack will be arrested and brought to justice.”
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
