Party registration for the upcoming general elections has begun

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission will begin party registration today for the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections on November 20.

The Commission has informed political parties registered with it until August 4 that they can apply for party registration from August 7 to 16 to participate in the direct and proportional election system for members of the House of Representatives and the State Assembly.

The details of the party, the number of officers and members of the party’s central executive committee, state and district committees, and the date the party submitted the annual audit report to the commission must be disclosed when submitting the application.

Similarly, the commission stated that the date of the most recent election of the party’s central and state level executive committees, as well as whether the political party’s organizational form is central or state level, should be disclosed. For members of the House of Representatives, an application must be submitted in accordance with Schedule 12, and for members of the State Assembly, an application must be submitted separately for seven States, in accordance with Schedule 12.

According to the notice issued by the Commission today, two or more parties must apply in the format of the Regulations on Political Parties in order to take a single election symbol and participate in the election under the Act on Political Parties.

A copy of the central committee’s decision, the party’s constitution, regulations, and manifesto, the annual audit report for the fiscal year 2077/78, and other necessary documents must be submitted and signed by the party’s chief officer in order to register the party.

Similarly, in order to provide the official letter of the party to the candidate, a signature sample with the official’s name, position, and contact number must be submitted in the prescribed format, along with the central committee’s decision to appoint the office bearer.

According to the commission, the political party’s constitution and regulations should be democratic. According to the party’s constitution, every official at the federal and state levels should be elected at least once every five years, and inclusive representation should be arranged in the party’s executive committee at various levels to reflect Nepal’s diversity.
