Parliament to discuss impeachment motion against JB Rana (with agenda)

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives is in session today. The meeting will take place today at 11 a.m., according to the Parliament Secretariat.
A possible agenda for today’s meeting is to discuss the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana. The ruling party MPs filed an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Rana five months ago, on Falgun (Feb/March).
On March 13, 98 members of the ruling Nepali Congress, CPN Maoist, and United Socialist Party lodged an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Rana at the Parliament Secretariat. A no-confidence motion was filed, but no action was taken, and it was criticized.
According to the possible agenda issued by the Parliament Secretariat, the impeachment motion will be discussed in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives. “In the meeting on March 6 there will be a discussion on the impeachment motion registered against Chief Justice Mr. Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana presented by Devprasad Gurung in accordance with clause (2) of Article 101 of the Constitution of Nepal and sub-rule (1) of Rule 161 of the House of Representatives Rules, 2075”. It is stated in today’s possible agenda.
After the impeachment was registered, the House of Representatives meeting on February 22 formed the ‘Impeachment Recommendation Committee. The committee consists of Meen Bahadur BK, Ram Bahadur Bista from Congress, Yashoda Subedi and Rekha Sharma from Maoists.
Similarly, while Kalyani Khadka is from CPN United Socialist Party, Pramod Sah from JSP, Ekbal Miya is LOSAPA, while the main opposition party from CPN UML includes UML’s Bishnu Paudel, Lalbabu Pandit, Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe and Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel.
