115 companies to face legal action for producing & selling unsanitary food products

KATHMANDU: Legal action will be taken against 115 food industries that produce and sell inedible foods in violation of the Food Act, 2023 BS.

These industries are being prosecuted for failing to include labels on their products, producing substandard food, operating without a license, and manufacturing coliform-contaminated food, water, and beverages.

In Fiscal Year 2021/22, the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control filed cases against 115 companies at the District Administration Office or the District Court concerned, seeking legal action against them.

According to department spokesperson Mohan Krishna Maharjan, if found guilty, a food company will face a fine of up to Rs 50 thousand or a five-year prison sentence, or both.
