KATHMANDU: Earlier, following negotiations with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Nawalparasi Susta meter interest victims returned to Kathmandu after suspending their sit-in protest for 16 days. They have been protesting for three days at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu.
Previously, even after negotiations with the government, they returned to protest, claiming that the meter interest issue had not been resolved.
The participants in the sit-in protest led by the Kisan Majdoor Sangharsh Committee against meter interest and fraud have demanded that the tamsuk (handwritten note) of the land of the farmers-laborers who were made landless be returned, as well as the excess money.
Ramsuwak Musahar, who had come from Nawalparasi Susta on a sit-in, said that their problems had not been resolved despite the fact that they had returned home after discussions with the Ministry of Home Affairs. He stated that he was forced to stage a sit-in protest for the second time because the government failed to provide tamsuk while releasing the land.
Even though it rained the victims attempted to protect themselves from the rain by covering themselves with’mattress’ umbrellas and plastic, and they continued to a sit-in protest in Maitighar today.
