KATHMANDU: The government has finalized plans to announce the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections. Top leaders of the ruling coalition have proposed to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba that elections be held in a single phase on November 20.
The government intends to announce the election date two weeks after the deadline, as recommended by the Election Commission.
Prime Minister Deuba has already consulted stakeholders on the election announcement, including the main opposition party UML, the Speaker, and legal experts.
Prime Minister Deuba voiced his opinion on the election announcement at a meeting of the ruling coalition’s top leaders on Wednesday.
The top leader has proposed setting the date for November 20. If no new political developments occur, the government plans to announce the date of today’s cabinet meeting.
According to a minister, a meeting will be held today, and the date of the election may be announced. “A proposal to announce the election date is going through today’s meeting,” the minister said.
