Saptakoshi Flood: CM Rai urges locals to avoid hazardous areas

KATHMANDU: The flow of the Saptakosi River towards the west and into human settlements has caused serious concern and worry for the Honorable Chief Minister of State 1 Rajendra Kumar Rai.
He expressed concern that some wards in Sunsari Barahkshetra Municipality and Udayapur Belaka Municipality in State 1 would be affected as the river flowed westward.
Chief Minister Rai has urged residents of the river’s coastal areas to leave dangerous areas and relocate to safer areas, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
He directed the local administration, local level and people’s representatives, security personnel, the Red Cross, and other agencies to be aware of the potential damage caused by the river flow entering the settlement and to participate in relief and rescue operations.
The State 1 government, according to Chief Minister Rai, is committed to providing adequate relief and rescue, with the expectation that various social organizations will be active in the immediate relief situation.
Chief Minister Rai is currently recovering from a COVID-19 infection.
