Mayor of city declared, “We need a separate law!”

KATHMANDU: The conference of the mayors of the country’s metropolitan cities issued a declaration letter and publicized the common opinion that a separate law from the parliament is required for the metropolitan cities.

Following a meeting of the mayors of the metropolitan cities in Pokhara, they issued a joint manifesto today, stating the need for a separate law for the metropolitan cities.

The mayors stated that there is a need to amend existing federal laws, such as the Local Government Operation Act of 2074, as well as create new laws.

The mayors of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Birgunj, Biratnagar, and Pokhara have all signed the joint declaration.
