Over 31,000 people obtained citizenship from Jhapa in previous fiscal year

KATHMANDU: According to the administration, the number of people who obtained citizenship from the district administration office in the fiscal year 2078/79 more than doubled from the previous fiscal year.

Chomendra Neupane, Assistant Chief District Officer, reported that 31,031 people had received citizenship certificates by the end of Ashar (mid-july).

He stated that among those who obtained citizenship, 20,241 obtained it through descent, 549 through marriage, and 10,241 through a copy.

Only 13,024 people obtained Nepali citizenship certificates in the previous academic year 2077/78.

Citizenship and other functions were also impacted during that time due to the long-term shutdown of public services caused by COVID-19.
