Valley’s waste to be managed from Thursday
ollowing the completion of road repair work, waste management will resume as usual at 6 a.m. from Thursday.
KATHMANDU: Garbage collection in Kathmandu Valley, which had been halted for a week, will resume tomorrow, Thursday. Garbage collection in the valley was delayed for a week due to the need to repair about two kilometers of road from Sisdol to Bancharedanda. Due to road maintenance, the waste management work of the valley’s 18 local levels was halted.
Following the completion of road repair work, waste management will resume as usual at 6 a.m. from Thursday, according to a notice issued by Loknath Poudel, Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).
KMC issued a notice on July 20 asking residents to keep rotting and non-rotting waste inside their homes for a week rather than throwing it in streets, chowks, and public places.
Every day, 1,200 metric tons of waste from the valley is being managed in Sisdol. A maximum of 500 metric tons of garbage is released in KMC as a result of this. That facility manages approximately 75% of the waste emitted daily from the valley.
Meanwhile, KMC has increased its location identification efforts in order to manage the valley’s rotting waste right here. Under the leadership of KMC chief Balendra Sah, land is being sought for the management of rotting waste in various locations throughout the valley and even outside the valley.
KMC began managing rotting and non-rotting types of waste from all 32 wards on July 17 for effective waste management.
