Finance Minister Sharma Case: Parliamentary committee to consult forensic expert

KATHMANDU: The parliamentary special committee which is investigating the alleged involvement of unauthorized persons in the preparation of the budget will consult with forensic experts about the details including the CCTV footage obtained from the police.

The Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee has opened a report of Hard Dicsk on CCTV obtained from a forensic lab. In the committee’s meeting held after 8 am on Tuesday, the report of the sealed hard disk received from the forensic lab with a fingerprint was opened.

After the video of May 28 was not found in the hard disks given by the Ministry of Finance to the Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee formed on the charge of making the budget through the entry of unauthorized persons, it was sent to the police forensic science laboratory

The hard disk sent by the Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee on July 20 was received from the Central Police Digital Forensic Science Laboratory of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Nepal Police on Monday. The committee has started studying the report.

In today’s meeting, the committee members watched the CCTV footage of the Finance Ministry obtained from the police. After that, the meeting was adjourned to be held today at 4:00 PM.

After the meeting, the secretary of the committee, Surendra Aryal, informed that experts related to the forensic lab would be consulted. Aryal said that he could not say whether the forensic report contained the video of May 28.

Speaker Agni Sapkota formed an 11-member special parliamentary inquiry committee on July 6 last after the issue of tax rate manipulation in the budget became public. On the same day, Janardan Sharma resigned from the post of Finance Minister.
