Finance Minister Case: Police submitted forensic report to inquiry committee

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Police Central Forensic Science Laboratory has submitted a report to the Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee regarding CCTV footage from May 28, the day before the budget announcement. The laboratory gave a report to the committee on Monday.

According to sources, the committee meeting on Tuesday morning will open the sealed report. The committee requested CCTV footage from the Ministry of Finance, but after not receiving the footage from May 28, it sent it to the police forensic lab for recovery.’

So far, the committee has not found any evidence of unauthorized persons entering the Ministry of Finance to change the tax rate during budget preparation.

In the committee meeting on Sunday, UML MPs proposed call details and location tracking after incomplete CCTV footage provided by the finance ministry and statements by ministry officials did not confirm the entry of unauthorized persons. The ruling party’s members objected. Even at Monday’s meeting, the committee members were unable to reach an agreement.
