KATHMANDU: Doleshwor Mahadev, also known as ‘Sipare Madyo’ in Nepali, is located in the Bhaktapur district of Sipadol. Doleshwar Mahadev is also known as Bimaleshwar Mahadev in Himawatkhand.
This temple is located in the lap of a dola (round) hill on the southern side of the Dola Shikhar Parbat range and has been known as Doleshwar Mahadev since ancient times. An inscription in the temple grounds erected by Bhupatindra Malla, king of Bhaktapur, proves that the name ‘Doleshwor Mahadev’ existed before that time.
It is believed that the Pandavas also made a pilgrimage to this Mahadev Temple, who is also worshiped as a part of the head of Shri Kedarnath in India. Hundreds of devotees visited Doleshwor Mahadev despite the rain that had fallen since early this morning.
