KATHMANDU: The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced its monetary policy for the fiscal year 2079-80.

Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari announced the monetary policy for the fiscal year 2079-80, which was approved by the National Reserve Board of Directors on Friday at 4 p.m.

Stating that strict monetary policy has been adopted, the governor official has said that the simple policies taken during the impact of COVID-19 will be reduced. He stated that the scope of monetary policy will be expanded by prioritizing digital transactions and improving credit quality.

He stated that the interbank interest rate was maintained. He stated that the policy rate will be kept constant so that it does not fall below the annual target inflation rate.

He stated that the goal of monetary policy is to keep a foreign currency reserve large enough to support imports of goods and services for up to 7 months in a small and import-dependent country like Nepal.

He stated that the interest rate corridor was established to help stabilize the economy.
