UML’s demand to pass Citizenship Bill through consensus
Ganga Chaudhary Satgauwa, another UML member, demanded that foreigners be granted citizenship only after seven years of marriage.
KATHMANDU: As citizenship is connected to nationality, an all-party consensus is required in today’s House of Representatives meeting for the passage of the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063 (First Amendment), Bill 2079.
During the bill’s debate, Khagaraj Adhikari, MP of the main opposition party CPN (UML), stated that a decision on citizenship should be made based on the experience of other countries around the world.
Looking at the practice of other SAARC countries, Ganga Chaudhary Satgauwa, another UML member, demanded that foreigners be granted citizenship only after seven years of marriage.
Durga Paudel, Ghanashyam Khatiwada, Anjana Bisankhe, Nar Bahadur Dhami, Dr. Surya Prasad Pathak, Gokul Prasad Baskota, and others were present in the discussion.
After Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand’s proposal for discussion was passed at today’s meeting, amendment MPs began to voice their opinions.
