“Methane gas” ejected in Jorpati stalled after 17 hours, what is this gas used for?
Throughout the night, the armies of Sundarijal's Shri No. 1 Disaster Management Team provided security in the area where the gas was ejected.

KATHMANDU: “Methane gas” ejected near Jorpati Chowk in Kathmandu’s Gokarneshwor Municipality-5 has been stalled.
The gas that came out while digging bore for drinking water in Santabir Lama’s house in Devi Marga stalled after about 17 hours.
Ward No. 5 ward chairperson Narayan Bahadur Subedi informed Makalu Khabar that the mud and gas that came out around 10:30 on Tuesday morning stalled coming out around 3:30 this morning. The methane was ejected after digging a bore about 300 feet underground.
According to the Department of Mines and Geology, there is abundant methane gas beneath the valley’s ground, and the gas will be released when drilling at around 300 feet. “As there is no rock beneath the ground in Kathmandu, methane gas accumulates in some areas,” explained Prithivi Lal Shrestha, head of the department’s gas branch, “then when someone drills for water in that area, such a fountain appears.” It appears that when it comes out of the small hole in the hyperpressor all at once, it will come out much higher. In Jorpati, the same thing happened.
According to the department, methane gas is emitted throughout the Kathmandu valley. Methane gas, according to Chief Shrestha, can be used in cooking. It is being distributed to government offices and vegetable shops in Teku, according to the department.
Throughout the night, the armies of Sundarijal’s Shri No. 1 Disaster Management Team provided security in the area where the gas was ejected. Two fire engines were kept on standby in case there was an immediate fire. The incident caused no human or physical harm.
After the methane gas stalled, there is now a muddy road surrounding that area. A similar incident occurred a few months ago in Kapan, Kathmandu.
