Nepal’s historic victory over Scotland
Nepal made history by defeating Scotland for the first time in the country's cricket history.
KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Scotland by five wickets in the second match of the ICC Men’s World Cup League-2 triangular series. Nepal completed the target of 145 runs set by Scotland in 25.1 overs, losing 5 wickets.
Nepal made history by defeating Scotland for the first time in the country’s cricket history. Aasif Sheikh scored 71 runs in the win over Nepal. Aasif hit 71 runs off 62 balls, including 10 fours and one six. Similarly, Kushal Bhurtel made 27 runs, Rohit Paudel made 34 runs unbeaten, Dev Khanal made four runs, and Dipendra Singh Airee made three runs.
Earlier, Scotland scored 144 runs in 42.5 overs after losing the toss and batting first. For Nepal, Sompal Kami and Aadil Ansari bowled brilliantly. Both teams took 3-3 wickets. Sompal took three wickets for 40 runs in ten overs, while Adil took three wickets for 31 runs, including one maiden. Captain Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets, while Karan KC and Dipendra Singh Airee each took one.
Scotland’s Gavin Mann top-scored with 64, followed by Mark Watt (17), Safyaan Sharif (16) and Calum MacLeod (13). Other Scottish batsmen were unable to score double figures.
Scotland is currently second in World Cup League-2 with 30 points from 21 games, while Nepal is fifth with 17 points from 18 games. Namibia has dropped to sixth place in the series, with 16 points from 16 games.
Under the series, Nepal will now face Namibia on Saturday and Scotland on Sunday.
