Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister assumes presidential powers
As Rajapaksa was out of the country, he appointed Wickremesinghe in accordance with the constitution, the speaker said in a statement.
KATHMANDU: President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to perform and discharge the president’s powers and duties, said Sri Lanka’s Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on Wednesday.
As Rajapaksa was out of the country, he appointed Wickremesinghe in accordance with the constitution, the speaker said in a statement.
