KATHMANDU: Local re-elections are being held in Bajura’s Budhiganga Municipality. After the May 13 election was disputed, it was canceled, and voting took place today.

Peaceful re-voting is taking place in all ten wards of the municipality, with 10 polling stations and 19 polling booths. All polling places have increased security. Around 1,200 security personnel have been mobilized, including the Army, Armed Forces, Nepal Police, and National Investigation.

The Election Commission (EC) had previously decided to re-run the polls on May 13 due to the poor security situation, which prevented free and fair voting.

Polling was halted during the previous election as UML and Nepali Congress cadres occupied booths in six of ten polling stations. Budhiganga has been delayed in selecting people’s representatives and bringing the budget due to the failure to hold the election on time.
