MANILA: Seven soldiers were wounded, two critically, after an anti-personnel mine allegedly planted by suspected rebels hit patrolling government troops in the central Philippines on Tuesday morning, a military general said.
Maj. Gen. Edgardo De Leon, the commander of the 8th Infantry Division, said the ambush occurred at around 6:15 a.m. local time in Mapanas, a municipality in Northern Samar province.
“The troops were on foot patrol when the rebels detonated the anti-personnel mine,” De Leon said, adding that the attack forced the government troops to abort their operation.
