KATHMANDU: According to the State Department, it has not yet sent a letter to the US regarding the US State Partnership Program (SPP).

During a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, spokesperson Sewa Lamsal stated that the ministry was aware of the Council of Ministers’ decision to cancel the SPP and would send a letter to the US in due course. “We have not received the letter as we are still studying. We will send the letter to the United States at the appropriate time,” she said.

The Government of Nepal decided to reject the SPP on June 20 and assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to send a letter to the United States to provide formal information.

There was widespread protest after the Nepal Army rejected the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reached an agreement with the US National Guard in Utah about the SPP.

Likewise, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was not involved in the earlier SPP decision.
